Commercialization of Education Must End – Education Is a Right, Not a Commodity"

"The commercialization of education is a growing menace that deeply undermines the principles of equality and justice in our society. Education is a fundamental human right—not a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder," said Dr. Anthony Raju, Advocate, Supreme Court and Chairman of the Indian National Human Rights Protection Council.

He emphasized that coaching centres exploiting students’ fears and parents’ dreams have turned education into a profit-driven industry. “Lakhs of aspirants are pressured into believing that success in competitive exams can only be bought with costly coaching, which is absolutely untrue. This mindset must be challenged and changed.”

Citing the extraordinary success of Anushka Anand Kulkarni, Dr. Raju added:

"Securing a top rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is no less than a herculean feat. With lakhs of aspirants competing for a limited number of MBBS seats across the country, the exam demands not just academic brilliance but unwavering focus, consistency, and a well-thought-out preparation strategy. For Anushka Anand Kulkarni, a student from Panaji, Goa, NEET UG 2023 was an opportunity to prove herself — and she did so in spectacular fashion. With a score of 705 out of 720, she secured an All India Rank of 24 and is now pursuing her MBBS at AIIMS Delhi. Her story is a testament to how strategic planning, discipline, and family support can lead to outstanding success — without any expensive coaching or tuitions."

Dr. Raju concluded: "We must protect the sanctity of education. Let us empower students through robust public education, affordable resources, and by promoting self-study models. The time has come to dismantle the coaching mafia and return learning to its rightful place — as a noble journey, not a business."
